About Debbie

Debbie Allen is a public-school music educator, with experience teaching at all grade levels in vocal and instrumental music. Allen spent 27 years of her career in the Shawnee Mission School District teaching elementary music, band, choir and orchestra. During her tenure in Shawnee Mission, she served as the K-12 Performing Arts Coordinator and Curriculum Specialist for 11 years. One of the achievements Allen is most proud of is becoming a Partner in Education with the John F. Kennedy Performing Arts Center in Washington D.C., a position she held for five years, allowing her to provide arts integration training to all subject-area teachers in the Kansas City Metro. Allen's service to the profession continues as she is a substitute teacher/clinician for the Blue Valley School District in Kansas and recently completed 7 years as a music education adjunct professor at Baker University. Allen is a published composer who is proud to excite and inspire students with original band, choir, and orchestra compositions. In 2026, Allen was honored with induction into the Kansas Music Educators Hall of Fame.

I believe students who study the arts, explore their creativity, and develop their confidence will use these skills in whatever profession they choose.
