About Danielle

Danielle Wright (they/xe) works within the Theatre and Music departments at Wayne State University teaching Music Theatre Performance in addition supporting the work of the Underground Theatre Company. Wright loves working with the students of WSU, and is so proud of the many hats they’ve worn during these productions: advocates, performers, directors, producers, and much more.

In their “spare time,” Wright founded Opera MODO to fill the need for emerging artists who are current/finished with school, seeking opportunities to develop artistically and gain stage experience. Wright has forged numerous institutional relationships for Opera MODO in and around Detroit, including the Detroit Institute of the Arts and the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. They also have a private voice and dramatic coaching studio in Detroit and serve as the vocal director of the Motor City Cabaret at WSU. Wright's teaching specialties include musical theatre techniques, nonbinary/trans technique/voice building, classical-based technique, and vocal rehabilitation after trauma, stress, surgery.

Wright made xer Main Stage operatic debut in 2010 with Des Moines Metro Opera and maintains active stage and directing careers throughout the world while performing the duties of Executive Director and Founder of Opera MODO. For more information, visit xer website

I believe everyone has a voice. I believe everyone can sing. I believe that there has to be a place that everyone feels safe to make the sounds they need to make on their journey of finding their voice. The voice is the only instrument that lives inside us—it’s not only the instrument that needs to be attended to, but the mental, emotional, and physical of our human. To feel safe, to heal, to grow, to learn, to free the most beautiful sound—your sound. I would be honored to be part of your journey.
