About Dan

Dan retired from teaching instrumental music in 2017 after a 30-year career in the public schools. Twenty-four of those were in Grosse Pointe, Michigan, where he served as Director of Bands at Grosse Pointe South High School (1998-2010) and taught AP Music Theory, Music Technology, and Music Appreciation. Dan has conducted at Detroit's Orchestra Hall, Music Hall, and Institute of Arts and also on concert stages in New York, Chicago, Toronto, Orlando, and at the Royal Academy of Music in London. His jazz bands were also frequent invitees to the Detroit Jazz Festival and appeared at numerous professional venues in the Detroit area. When not amongst the stacks at the Fennell Library you may find him playing saxophone at a local venue or riding his bike through the woods.
