About Christopher

Christopher Campbell is a New York–based director, choreographer, performer, and educator. Currently, he serves as the Resident Director on the First National Tour of MJ: THE MUSICAL.

As a director, Campbell’s artistic mission is to breathe new life into the classics through a Black and queer lens, challenging traditional storytelling frameworks, reframing who gets centered, and inviting new generations to see themselves in timeless stories. His work has reached audiences on Broadway, in universities, in regional theatres, and at film festivals across the US and Europe. As a performer, he was most recently a member of the Tony Award-winning original Broadway company of MJ: THE MUSICAL and the original Australian company and US national tour of HAMILTON.

Campbell holds an MFA in Directing from Penn State and a BFA in Musical Theatre from the University of Michigan. He also attended Interlochen Arts Academy. He is the recipient of the 2019 Blois Danse International Choreographic Festival Jury Award, which is French for “excellent work!”
