About Carol
Los Angeles–based freelance pianist/collaborative pianist/music educator Carol Man Lee received her M.M. & B.M. degrees in Piano Performance from University of Southern California Thornton School of Music, where she was a scholarship student of Daniel Pollack and also studied with Kevin FitzGerald in Keyboard Collaborative Arts. Lee is an Interlochen Arts Academy alumna, where she was a piano scholarship student of Benjamin Yu. A highlight during her time at Interlochen Arts Academy was being selected as one of the Academy's Concerto Competition Winners. While studying piano and composition with Dr. Donald Freund, she won first place in the MTNA Student Composition Competition and represented Tennessee in the MTNA Piano Solo Competitions. In addition to maintaining an active private teaching studio for over 30 years, Lee has performed solo, chamber, and orchestral programs nationally. As a Collaborative Pianist, she has worked with Interlochen Arts Academy and Interlochen Arts Camp’s Vocal, Instrumental, and Musical Theater departments, USC Thorton School of Music’s Strings and Vocal departments, NAMM’s Lounge 88 Roomful of Pianos, Amici Musica Chamber Ensemble, Music Teachers Association of California convention programs, Royal Conservatory of Music examinations, and musical theater productions around the country.
Professional affiliations include Music Teachers National Association, California Association of Professional Music Teachers, Music Teachers Association of California - Pasadena Branch, Pi Kappa Lambda Professional Honors Society, Mu Phi Epsilon, among others. She has served in Arts Leadership roles with MTAC Pasadena Branch Board as Branch Board President, local independent high school and homeschooling co-ops arts councils. Lee also worked as MTAC Certificate of Merit music exams Evaluator and judged for Southwestern Youth Music Festival. Lee is also a California Credentialed Multiple-Subject teacher and is active in both Pre-College academic and music education classrooms since 1995. In her spare time, she enjoys cycling and is an avid tennis player.
