About Anthony

Anthony Bero (he/him) is a collaborative musician and educator who has lived and worked in northern Michigan since 2000. He is a whirlwind of musical energy who makes a career out of juggling many musical projects. 2026 marks Bero's fifth summer teaching at Interlochen Arts Camp.

Bero is a private piano instructor and proud member of the Music Teachers National Association & the Michigan Music Teachers Association. He serves as president of the Grand Traverse affiliate.

Bero teaches many styles of music to students ranging in age from six to eighty-four. His top students & alumni have furthered their musical studies at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp, Interlochen Arts Camp, Interlochen Arts Academy, Northern Michigan University, and UNC Greensboro via Western Michigan University.

In 2013, Bero co-founded the non-profit theater company, Mashup Rock & Roll Musical, with his wife and creative partner, Lesley Tye. Together, they have produced ten original productions, two web series, and two Queer Cabarets. Additionally, Bero & Tye launched a new performance venue, The Match, converting an empty store front in Traverse City's Cherryland Center into a 90-seat theater available for smaller arts organizations to rent to stage their own productions.

Bero has spent the last eleven years as choir & music director at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Suttons Bay, Michigan.

Bero previously worked at Interlochen Public Radio from as the producer of "Kids Commute." Together with the show's host, Kate Botello, he won back-to-back bronze awards in 2018 & 2019 from the New York Festivals Radio Awards in the category ‘Best Children/Young Adult Program.'

I will bend over backwards to help you have fun making music, because 'fun' is the whole point of making music in the first place. That's why we call it 'playing!'
