Anne Misener
About Anne
Performer and teacher Annette (Anne) Misener primarily spends their time on the violin, yet is found also on viola, and occasionally cello and piano in and around the Cincinnati area. In the 2023-24 school year Misener led the Miami University Symphony Orchestra viola section as Artistic Guest, helping with sectionals and scaffolding within orchestral rehearsals. Misener plays violin with the Butler Philharmonic Orchestra and with their Chamber Outreach Groups on viola. Additionally, they perform as a substitute with the Lexington Philharmonic Orchestra’s violin section, where they recently helped to workshop and premiere composer Shawn E. Okpebholo’s Two Black Churches. Championing new works is a passion of Misener’s, who has also debuted pieces by partner and composer Dr. Phillip Roberts. Together with cellist Michael Ronstadt, they form Trio Apéritif and have performed several live concerts, selections of which are available on their Youtube channel: Violintkitty.
Misener has been on the faculty at Michigan’s prestigious Interlochen Arts Camp for several summers teaching private lessons, coaching sectionals and chamber groups, and performing alongside colleagues throughout the season. During the school year, Misener teaches at the Oxford Music Academy and privately online to students all across the globe. Both of Misener’s degrees are in Violin Performance with specializations in Pedagogy and Performance Practice; Undergraduate from the University of Memphis where they studied with Tim Shiu and Master’s from SUNY Purchase College with Cal Wiersma.
I practice what I preach: I thoroughly believe in establishing and polishing great technique so that this habit will make it pleasant and easy for the student to play.
