About Abigail

Based in the UK, Abigail Burrows enjoys a varied portfolio career; working predominantly as a performer, innovator and teacher. As well as being a busy orchestral freelancer, she runs courses, designs outreach programmes, leads masterclasses and workshops around the world, and teaches at the Royal Academy of Music junior department. 

Abbie is a Haynes Artist and has worked with notable orchestras including the London Symphony Orchestra, London Contemporary Orchestra, and Brighton Philharmonic, as well as many west-end shows and tours including Les Misérables, Wicked, Phantom of the Opera and The Lion King. In the recording studio, she has played on numerous albums, libraries and movie soundtracks (including The Batman, Amsterdam, Adrift and Deadpool & Wolverine). 

Career highlights as a soloist include playing Bach's Brandenburg Concerto no.5 with The Philharmonia (Switzerland tour), tours of Russia (soloist with the Novgorod Philharmonic Orchestra) and Germany (guest solo artist with the New English Singers, performing Bach Sonatas in Hallé, Dresden, Berlin and Bach’s Thomas Kirche in Leipzig), and an invitation to play at a Jethro Tull concert at The Barbican, performing a solo and duet with the legendary rock-flautist Ian Anderson. She has been an invited Guest Artist at the National Flute Association Convention (Chicago and Orlando), Adams International Flute Festival (Netherlands), Aflaup Festival (Portugal), Polish Flute Festival (Katowice), Flute Fest! (Iceland), Spanish Flute Convention (Valencia), La Côte Festival (Switzerland) and Australian Flute Festival (Bisbane and Sydney).

Commercially, Abbie regularly performs in ‘Club Classics’ concerts (Dance Anthems reimagined for live orchestra) and ‘Orchestra-to-Film’ tours (Love Actually, Magic of Disney, Hocus Pocus and Harry Potter). She has worked with artists including Il Divo, Andrea Bocelli, Katherine Jenkins, and The Who, and toured with orchestral tributes to Genesis, Led Zeppelin and Queen, and played with various bands at music festivals including Glastonbury. 

Notorious for her innovative and passionate approach to teaching, Abbie has led masterclasses, flute choirs, flute days and workshops across Asia, Africa, North America and Australia. As well as The Royal Academy of Music, she is currently teaching at Trinity Laban, deputising for Anna Pope. She has previously taught at Britain’s oldest specialist music institution The Purcell School. She is the founder of The eFlute Festival, a pioneering online event. Her mission was to bring flute players together during the first COVID-19 lockdown of 2020 and the festival was a huge success; running for a sold-out month, employing over 40 renowned guest artists and scheduling over 60 concerts, workshops and masterclasses for players of every age and standard from all over the world. The festival took place again in 2022 and 2024, with plans underway for 2026.
