On May 6, 2019, NPR’s popular classical music program From the Top released an episode recorded live at Interlochen Arts Academy.

The episode, which was recorded in Corson Auditorium on March 15, is available to stream on From the Top’s website. You can also tune in to Interlochen Public Radio’s classical station on Saturday, May 11 at 5 p.m. for a broadcast of the episode.

The program features three Arts Academy soloists—tubist JunMing Wen, cellist Esther Chae, and bassoonist Luis Marquez Teruel—as well as the Arts Academy Percussion Ensemble and Arts Academy Orchestra. Actor and conductor Damon Gupton (Criminal MindsBates Motel) served as guest host; Michelle Cann was the collaborative pianist. Gupton and Dr. Leslie B. Dunner conducted the ensemble.

Since 1999, From the Top has showcased the talents and stories of up-and-coming classical musicians ages 8-18. In the show’s 20-year run, more than 250 Interlochen Arts Camp and Arts Academy students have been featured as performers. This performance is the fifth full-length episode recorded on the campus of Interlochen Center for the Arts.
