About Dane

A versatile oboist dedicated to the growth of his students, Dane Philipsen currently teaches oboe at the Interlochen Arts Academy and Arts Camps.

Prior to joining the faculty at Interlochen, Philipsen was an active performing and teaching artist based in the Atlanta area where he was the principal oboist of the Atlanta Opera and Artist Affiliate in Oboe at Emory University. Additionally, he has performed on both oboe and English horn with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, and others.

Philipsen resides in Interlochen with his wife, Bridget Gongol, who is currently studying medicine at Michigan State University and their two cats, Sophie and Katya.

Our oboe studio mission is to be ever-improving oboists and musicians, expand our experience of the liberal arts, and discover the role that music plays in our lives and developing careers.
