The 2024 YoungArts award winners have been announced—and almost a hundred of them have been to Interlochen.

19 current and former Interlochen Arts Academy students, 68 Interlochen Arts Camp alumni, and 4 Interlochen Online participants were honored in one of the nation’s leading competitions for young artists.

19 current and former Interlochen Arts Academy students, 68 Interlochen Arts Camp alumni, and 4 Interlochen Online participants are among the 699 young artists honored in the 2024 YoungArts Competition.

Presented by the National Foundation for the Advancement of Artists, the YoungArts competition identifies exceptional young artists ages 15-18 in 10 artistic disciplines in the written, visual, and performing arts. Since YoungArts was founded in 1981, more than 20,000 young artists have been recognized and supported by the program, including actor Timothee Chalamet, singer-songwriter Jon Batiste, poet Amanda Gorman, and flutist Claire Chase (IAC 92-93).

Winners are awarded in two categories—the YoungArts Award and the YoungArts Award With Distinction. YoungArts Award winners receive recognition and a monetary award of $250, while YoungArts Award With Distinction winners are invited to participate in National YoungArts Week, where they will participate in performances, readings, and workshops with acclaimed professional artists. Award winners with distinction will also have their work further evaluated for cash awards of up to $10,000. In addition, if they attend National YoungArts Week and meet the eligibility requirements, they may be nominated for U.S. Presidential Scholar in the Arts, one of the nation’s highest honors for high school artists. Since the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program was established in 1964, 50 Interlochen Arts Academy students have been selected as Presidential Scholars—more than any other high school in the nation.
