Why Take Screenwriting
Spend a week on our gorgeous campus drafting your creativity and imagination into stories and scripts that matter to you, all while working one-on-one with seasoned screenwriters, filmmakers, and visiting guest artists.
What You'll Learn
You'll have daily instruction and lab time to work individually on your scripts and screenplays. Under the guidance of our professional filmmaking instructors, you'll leave the program having developed and completed a short script for your portfolio. You'll also have the opportunity for a staged reading of your work with your fellow screenwriters.
The DeRoy Center for Film Studies
The DeRoy Center for Film Studies is the only facility in the country dedicated to film studies and production at the high school level. You'll have access to professional facilities and equipment, including specialized classrooms, edit suites, a soundstage, cameras and lighting packages, a 180-seat viewing space, and a production truck. You'll have the technology you need at every step of the filmmaking process.
The Film & New Media program offers additional summer programs, including: Filmmaking and Animation. These programs begin immediately following this program. Interlochen is also home to the Arts Academy boarding high school, which offers majors in Film & New Media and Creative Writing for grades 9-12, as well as a post-graduate year.

Interlochen is like a mini college: Students learn in a way that fuels their individual interest, but they come home to a group of friends who vary in major. Interlochen has inspired me to be a fearless, open-minded, and driven student of the arts.
