Dane Philipsen comes to Interlochen from Chicago where he has been performing with the Chicago Symphony while completing his DMA in oboe performance at Northwestern University.  Before moving to Chicago, Dane lived in Atlanta where he was Principal Oboe of the Atlanta Opera and performed and recorded with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra.  In addition to his performing career, Dane has extensive experience teaching oboe at Emory University, Kennesaw State University and on the high school level at the prestigious Westminster Schools in Atlanta.
Dane is a student of Scott Hostetler (Northwestern University), Martin Schuring (Arizona State University, MM) and Tom Barry (University of Northern Iowa, BM).  He has done additional study with Richard Killmer (Banff Center) and apprenticed with David Webber (Webber Reeds) as a professional reed maker.
