The goal of the Academy dance program is to train dancers who are well-rounded and prepared to face the rigors and technical demands of today's dance world. To this end, the Academy provides a ballet-based curriculum with additional emphasis in modern and jazz techniques. Versatility is vital for today's dancers; therefore, Academy dance majors are expected to embrace and to perform all dance styles.
The Academy dance faculty create a nurturing, yet demanding and concentrated environment where dancers are encouraged to explore their potential as technicians, artists and young adults. Learning to take responsibility for themselves and their own progress is also part of the training and direction dance majors receive at Interlochen.
Interlochen's college preparatory academics are challenging and offer the dance major the opportunity to broaden and enhance their educational foundation. In order to reach their full potential, dance majors are given the encouragement, support and resources needed to maintain a strong academic portfolio.
