How to Give

visual arts building at interlochen center for the arts

There are many ways to support Interlochen, which means it's easy to find the right giving plan for you and your family. Current gifts have an immediate impact and include donations of cash, securities, gifts-in-kind, or similar assets. You can also make a pledge commitment that is payable over a three- to five-year period, or make a long-term investment with a planned gift.

Future gifts create a legacy of generosity and are typically made as part of your estate plan. You can include Interlochen in your will or establish a trust or similar tax-advantaged life-income gift through our Planned Giving program.

Your tax-deductible gifts to Interlochen help set the stage for Interlochen's second century as the world's premiere destination for young artists.

Other Ways to Give

Here are a few more ways to give to Interlochen. Use the accordion buttons below to learn more.

You can choose a gift amount that’s right for you, and make that gift every month through an automatic payment. Interlochen Evergreens is the recurring giving program of the Interlochen Annual Fund. IPR Sustainers is the recurring giving program for Interlochen Public Radio.

Interlochen also welcomes gifts via electronic funds or wire transfer. Learn more at our Electronic Funds and Wire Transfers page.

Electronic Funds and Wire Transfers

In addition to cash gifts, we also welcome gifts of securities. We are currently able to accept stocks, bonds, and mutual funds. Learn more at our Gifts of Securities page.

Gifts of Securities

Interlochen welcomes gifts from our donors through Donor Advised Funds. If you have questions, please contact the Philanthropy Office at 231.276.7623 or philanthropy@interlochen.org.

You can make a planned gift now that will provide opportunities for the creative change-makers of tomorrow. Planned giving vehicles include wills, charitable gift annuities, charitable remainder unitrusts, lead gifts, gifts of insurance, retirement plans, or other arrangements. Donors who have chosen to remember Interlochen Center for the Arts or Interlochen Public Radio in their estates become members of the Interlochen Heritage Society.

Planned Giving

If you would like to speak with someone directly about our planned giving options, please contact our Director of Planned Giving Kathleen Kasdorf at 231.276.7637 or kathleen.kasdorf@interlochen.org.

Donors age 70 ½ or older are eligible to make Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCDs) of up to $100,000 from their IRA accounts. QCDs must come directly from the donor’s IRA administrator to Interlochen. QCDs can satisfy all or some portion of the taxpayer’s required minimum distribution (RMD) for the year if the donor is 72 or older. While there is no charitable deduction for a QCD, the QCD is not considered income for income tax purposes.

If you would like to speak with someone directly about making a gift through a Qualified Charitable Donation, please contact our Director of Planned Giving Kathleen Kasdorf at 231.276.7637 or kathleen.kasdorf@interlochen.org.

You can celebrate, honor, or memorialize a loved one by making a gift to the Interlochen Annual Fund or the IPR Annual Fund either online or by mail. You can also make a recognition gift through Interlochen's Buy a Brick program, naming a chair in Kresge auditorium, or supporting the annual Camp and Academy Memorial Scholarship. All provide giving options that personalize a donor's desire to support Interlochen's mission. Learn more.

Recognition and Memorial Gifts

Do you want to inspire family and friends to share your joy in cultivating the next generation of creative changemakers? If you have a birthday coming up and would rather give than receive, would like to create a fundraiser in honor or memory of a loved one, or have another fundraising idea, we have the tools to support you! In less than five minutes, you can create and begin sharing your fundraiser online with your friends, family, neighbors, and coworkers.

Using this tool rather than a Facebook Fundraiser or other platform will ensure that all of the money raised goes to Interlochen rather than a third party. Here’s how you can Start Your Fundraiser.

Some employers offer programs that will match your gifts to charitable causes (some will even match gifts from retirees and spouses of employees). If you're interested in having your employer match your gift, obtain a gift-matching form from your employer and mail or fax your completed form to Interlochen. See if your company is eligible by entering your employer's name in the lookup box below.

Founded by a group of Canadian alumni, Canadian Friends of Interlochen serves as a platform for Canadian citizens to support Interlochen and its mission. Learn more on our Canadian Friends of Interlochen page.

We accept gifts of real estate, art, musical instruments, equipment, furnishings, and other tangible property as outright gifts or pledges to Interlochen.

Gifts of tangible property are evaluated on a need basis. We appreciate anyone who contacts us with the desire to donate tangible property that still has a useable life-span.

Please contact the Philanthropy staff at 231.276.7623 or philanthropy@interlochen.org before sending any in-kind gifts to Interlochen.

Becoming an Interlochen Presents sponsor is one of many ways your business can expand your market reach while supporting Interlochen Center for the Arts. Each year, Interlochen Presents stages hundreds of student, faculty, and guest artist performances, including the highly-anticipated Interlochen Arts Festival. These events are deeply woven into the fabric of life in the Grand Traverse region and attract visitors from across the state of Michigan.

Businesses can also become on air supporters of Interlochen Public Radio programming, with prominent exposure to IPR's audiences on both IPR News and Classical IPR. Learn more IPR Giving Opportunities.

If you'd like to speak with someone about sponsorships or on-air opportunities, please contact John Roddy at 231.276.4421 or john.roddy@interlochen.org.
