IPR raises the curtain on show tunes-themed program

Show Tunes with Kate Botello is a new weekly program on Interlochen Public Radio that highlights the best of Broadway (and sometimes beyond).

This weekly musical “mash-up” features classic selections from IPR’s trove of Tony-winning vinyl records as well as up-to-the-moment hits.

“This is an example of the kind of original programming we want to be known for at IPR,” said IPR General Manager Sally Eisele. “We have the talent and the resources here at Interlochen to be able to truly showcase this sort of artistic content with the goal of providing fresh material to our loyal core audience while also attracting new listeners to IPR.”

Host Kate Botello builds each week’s program by drawing on her vast knowledge of musical theatre, plus a very special collection given to Interlochen by generous donor Ted Braciak. Botello says, “Many thanks to Ted for donating his incredible record collection—you'll be hearing lots of it on our show!”

Botello invites fans of the show to join the conversation. “Did you spend some time on the boards yourself?” she says. “We'd love to hear your musical theatre war stories—and share them on the air! Tell us about your biggest triumphs, your catastrophic failures, your near-misses and brilliant saves. We'd also love to hear your show tune requests so we can play your favorites.”

You can join the chorus line by calling the IPR Comment Line at 231.276.4444 and leaving your story or request on our answering machine.

Don't miss Show Tunes with Kate Botello, Sunday evenings from 7-8 p.m. on Classical IPR, or anytime at interlochen.org/showtunes.
