Interlochen Arts Academy students to perform at Carnegie Hall, National Sawdust

Students will present world premieres and original works in two interdisciplinary performances.

Interlochen Arts Academy will present interdisciplinary performances in two of New York City’s most prestigious venues this February.

The two performances, both titled Resolve, feature original works by students as well as world premieres of compositions by leading artists. Through these works, the young citizen-artists seek to pose challenging questions that will inspire change in themselves and society.

Students from several artistic disciplines will present a performance at National Sawdust in Brooklyn on Friday, Feb. 8 at 7:30 p.m. The collaborative work includes original songs, poems, monologues, visual art, and experimental fashion created by the students. Joining them in the performance is alumnus Sydney James Harcourt, a veteran stage and screen actor known for his work in Broadway’s Hamilton (original cast) and Girl from the North Country, as well as television’s Blue Bloods and The Good Wife.

On Monday, Feb. 11 at 8 p.m., the Interlochen Arts Academy Band and members of the Interlochen Arts Academy Dance Company will perform at Carnegie Hall. The highlight of the performance is the world premiere of Resolve!, an original ballet composed by Clint Needham and choreographed by Loni Landon as a response to the 2018 shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. The Arts Academy Band and dancers will be joined for the performance by noted conductor Allan McMurray and the Factory Seconds Brass Trio.

“These performances are a wonderful opportunity for our students to experience life as professional artists, as well as to share their ideas with the world,” said Interlochen President Trey Devey. “To perform alongside gifted artists in some of our nation’s most prestigious venues is a privilege for artists of any age. We are honored to have been invited to showcase the talents of our students on the national stage.”

“Resolve has presented a number of valuable educational experiences for our students,” said Interlochen Arts Academy Provost Camille Colatosti. “Through developing these productions, our students have had the opportunity to collaborate with each other and with world-class artists. They have also learned how to produce a professional-quality performance and how to use their artistic talents to advocate for positive change.”
