We invite you to revisit your Interlochen memories and join us on campus this summer. The Office of Engagement is offering all alumni a 25% discount on up to four tickets for each of the performances in our series (50% discount for Collage), along with special receptions at Apollo Hall to gather with fellow alumni, staff, faculty, and friends.

Orchestre national d’île-de-France music director Case Scaglione makes his Interlochen debut at the helm of the World Youth Symphony Orchestra. Scaglione takes the podium for a thrilling performance featuring Antonín Dvořák’s optimistic, Bohemian folk music-inspired Symphony No. 8. The program also includes the Michigan premiere of Dayton Hare’s “spiral-bound,” which was co-commissioned by Interlochen and the New York Youth Symphony as part of the Jon Deak First Music Commissioning Competition.

Louis Langrée—director of the Théâtre national de l’Opéra Comique and music director laureate of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra—returns to Interlochen for his World Youth Symphony Orchestra debut. Langrée leads the ensemble in a performance of Dmitri Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 11: A vivid symphonic reflection on the Russian Revolution of 1905.

Lang Lang performs "Rhapsody in Blue"
See globally acclaimed pianist Lang Lang side-by-side with the young artists of Interlochen Arts Camp in the inaugural performance of the Shirley Young Distinguished Artist Series. Heralded by The New York Times as “the hottest artist on the classical music planet,” Lang Lang is one of the most influential and committed ambassadors for the arts in the 21st century. The artist, educator, and philanthropist joins Interlochen’s World Youth Symphony Orchestra and Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra Music Director Designate Cristian Măcelaru (IAA 97-99, IAC 98) for a performance of George Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue.” The evening will also feature works by Hollywood film composers, including the legendary John Williams, performed by the Interlochen Philharmonic and World Youth Symphony Orchestra under the batons of Măcelaru and Louis Langrée, Director of the Théâtre National de l’Opéra-Comique in Paris.
A component of Interlochen’s upcoming centennial celebration, the Shirley Young Distinguished Artist Series brings some of the world’s leading artists to Interlochen Arts Camp to work with students and present public performances. Patrons who purchase tickets to Lang Lang’s performance will receive early access to purchase tickets for future events in the series—including performances by soprano Renée Fleming and trumpeter, composer, and artistic director of Jazz at Lincoln Center, Wynton Marsalis.

World Youth Symphony Orchestra and "Les Préludes"

Experience a powerful, 98-year-old tradition as the students of Interlochen Arts Camp stage the perennial end-of-summer celebration, “Les Préludes.” Students from all three of the Camp’s high school instrumental ensembles—the World Youth Symphony Orchestra, Interlochen Philharmonic, and World Youth Wind Symphony—unite with the Interlochen Summer Dance Ensemble for a poignant multidisciplinary performance of Franz Liszt’s evocative tone poem, “Les Préludes.” Join alumni, friends, and conductor Cristian Mǎcelaru (IAA 97-99, IAC 98), for this memorable performance.
