Nominations for the 2021 Emmy Awards were announced on July 13, and Interlochen Arts Camp and Arts Academy alumni earned recognition in multiple categories.

Disney Plus’s Hamilton was nominated for Outstanding Variety Special (pre-recorded). The special, a recorded performance by the original cast of the Broadway musical, featured Sydney James Harcourt (AS 94, 97, IAA 94-97) as Philip Schuyler, James Reynolds, and the doctor. A Grammy Award-winning actor, singer, and dancer, Harcourt is a frequent guest artist and collaborator at Interlochen Arts Academy and recently delivered the commencement address to the Interlochen Arts Academy class of 2021.

Our Lady J (IAA 94-96) and the cast of Pose earned a nomination for Best Drama. A screenwriter and musician, Our Lady J serves as a producer and writer for the barrier-breaking FX show. She previously wrote and produced the award-winning Amazon Prime series Transparent.

Two Interlochen alumnae starred in Best Comedy nominated programs. Maya Erskine (IAC 98, 02) co-created and stars as Maya Ishii-Peters in Hulu’s PEN15, while Ashley Park (IAC 03) appears as Mindy Chen in Emily in Paris. Park, who taught an Interlochen Online master class in summer 2020, is best known for her roles on Broadway, particularly her portrayal of Gretchen Wieners in Mean Girls: The Musical.

Many Interlochen alumni receive prestigious recognition for their accomplishments, including 14 MacArthur “Genius Grant” honorees, 139 Grammy Award winners, 29 Tony Award winners, 3 recipients of the Pulitzer Prize, and 24 Emmy Award winners.
