2009 Academy Graduate Wins National Self-Portrait Contest

Academy visual arts major Jordan Else Pemberton of Michigan won first place honors for the 2009 Utrecht Art Supplies fifth Annual Self-Portrait Contest, co-sponsored by the Savannah College of Art & Design.

Pemberton was profiled on Utrecht.com and received a $500 ArtSmart Card. Other recent awards for Pemberton include first place and best in show in the Northwestern Michigan College High School Art Contest, a youngARTS Silver Award in visual arts, a Gold Key Award for printmaking in the Scholastic Art Awards. Her art has been included in exhibitions at the Margulies Collection, Northwestern Michigan College, and Interlochen Center for the Arts. Pemberton’s artwork has been published in the Interlochen Review and the Red Wheelbarrow, printed on two album covers and used for retail advertisement. She is planning on attending the Maryland Institute College of the Arts in the fall where she will study visual arts.
