Because charitable bequests usually enjoy unlimited deductions from federal and state inheritance taxes, a commitment to Interlochen may have significant advantages for you. A properly planned bequest to Interlochen may even result in a larger estate passing to other heirs.

Many donors choose to make an outright bequest, leaving a specific property or a specific amount to Interlochen. You may however, donate a percentage of your estate. You may also bequeath the residue of your estate - whatever is left after all other terms of your will have been satisfied.

Although unrestricted funds allow Interlochen to allocate dollars where the need is greatest, you may choose to restrict your bequest for a specific purpose - such as a scholarship or a building. Please be aware that an improperly worded restriction could, in the future, render Interlochen unable to benefit from such a bequest. Please consult with the Planned Giving Office to discuss your intentions.

An unrestricted bequest to Interlochen can be made by including a simple provision in your will. Please note that state laws pertaining to bequests vary widely. You should consult with your estate planner before including a bequest provision in your will.

Here is an example of an unrestricted bequest provision, either stated as a percentage or specific sum:
___% of the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate, whether real, personal or mixed, of whatever character and wherever situated, including any lapsed bequest or devise, I give, devise, and bequeath to Interlochen Center for the Arts, Interlochen, Michigan.

The following is an example of a restricted bequest provision, stated as a percentage or specific sum:
___% of the rest and residue of my estate of which I may die seized and possessed, real, personal or mixed, of whatsoever character and wherever situated, including a lapsed bequest or devise, I give, devise, and bequeath to (the specific purpose or program, i.e. scholarship, department, building, etc.) at Interlochen Center for the Arts, Interlochen, Michigan.
