The Trustee Presidential Search Committee met in August to personally interview nine semi-finalists for the position of President and CEO of Interlochen. Three finalists were then selected and all three have now visited the Interlochen campus for a series of meetings with President Kimpton, Senior Staff, the Advisory Committee to the Search Committee (consisting of representatives of Academy Faculty, Camp Faculty, Administrative Staff, Programmatic Staff, Alumni, Parents, Interlochen Public Media, Division Directors and the Council of Trustee Advisors). Their visits included an extensive tour of campus and Norpines.
The purpose of these meetings was two-fold. First and foremost, these meetings were an opportunity for the finalists to learn more about Interlochen and become even more enthusiastic about the possibility of working here. Secondly, it provided an opportunity for a mutual exchange of information regarding the candidates' background and experience, in addition to enabling the candidates to inquire more about programs, divisions and the scope of activity at Interlochen.
Confidentiality remains a major issue as we continue with the process. All of the candidates have important relationships at their current institutions that must not be jeopardized. It is vitally important that we respect this need for confidentiality and will continue to do so until a recommendation is made by the Trustee Search Committee to the Board of Trustees for their final approval.
We are excited about the candidates that have emerged as finalists after an exhaustive search. Our goal remains to make a selection by the end of the year.
All of the outreach that we have conducted— a dozen focus groups on campus, an on-line survey that went to thousands of alumni and friends, multiple meetings with senior staff and the Advisory Committee—has been very helpful in both defining the Position Profile and directing our efforts as we have gone through the interview process. We look forward to keeping you informed as we continue our effort.
