Some of the highlights of WINTERLOCHEN include a pancake breakfast held at the Interlochen Public Library from 8-11 a.m., an opening fanfare on Osterlin Mall at 10:30 a.m., food vendors serving delicious edibles throughout the day, an 11 a.m. Gypsy Jazz concert at Corson, as well as a children’s story book reading at 11 a.m. in the Writing House, ice skating, snowman-building and snow painting on the Opera Field, s’mores, self-guided snowshoeing and cross-country skiing through Interlochen State Park, a film showcase at DeRoy throughout the day, a kids’ theatre showcase featuring a performance of “The Thai Tale” at the Phoenix Theatre, as well as “Grimm’s Fairy Tales, An Oral Interpretation,” dancing, crafting painting, tossing, singing and more.
More highlights of the day include a showing of “Rango” at 3:30 p.m. in DeRoy and a performance by the Hot Club of San Francisco in Corson Auditorium.
“We are looking forward to giving visitors of all ages a chance to experience the full breadth and depth of our performance offerings. All of our daytime activities are family-friendly and have been designed to appeal to all ages,” says Interlochen’s director of presentations Chris Gruits. “This includes free indoor and outdoor activities, free Interlochen Arts Academy student performances and more."
Events will kickoff at 10:30 a.m. and include hands-on percussion demonstrations, film showcases, theatre performances, a chamber ensemble concert, a funk band concert, singer-songwriter concerts, dance performances, creative writing readings, children’s activities and much more.”
