Interlochen Dance to perform in NYC

Dancers from Interlochen Arts Academy Ballet will perform in New York City as part of the Martha Graham Dance Company’s biennial University Partner Showcase on Saturday, April 6, 2019.

This special program, presented at the Joyce Theater in Chelsea, features modern dance works by Graham and other choreographers performed by college and high school dancers from around the country. This year’s program includes dancers from The Juilliard School, Slippery Rock University, Teens@Graham, Graham 2, Williams College, Montclair State University, Ball State University, and Adelphi University.

Interlochen’s dancers will perform Graham’s Appalachian Spring Suite (1944), which was staged for their Winter Dance Performance in February.

“It is an honor to be invited to take part in this unique event hosted by the Martha Graham Dance Company, especially for a high school program,” said Interlochen Director of Dance Joseph Morrissey. “Performing at The Joyce Theatre is a phenomenal way for these hard-working students to experience performing at one of New York’s most renowned venues for contemporary dance while sharing the stage with passionate peers and students from higher education programs they may consider for their futures.”

In addition to the performance, dancers are invited to attend a mixer at the Martha Graham Studio Theater, where they will have the chance to meet peers and professionals in the field.
