Interlochen alumnus named next Instructor of Cello

Interlochen Center for the Arts is thrilled to announce that Dr. Patrick M. Owen (IAA 92-93, IAC 91-92) will be joining the Interlochen Arts Academy faculty as our next Instructor of Cello. Dr. Owen is joining us after current Instructor of Cello Crispin Campbell announced his pending retirement earlier this Academy year. Dr. Owens was a pupil of Campbell’s during his time as a student at Interlochen.

Dr. Owen will be joining us from Boston, where he is a member of the Portland String Quartet and has also taught at the New England Conservatory Preparatory Division. Dr. Owen has performed extensively throughout the world, including: four years as Assistant Principal Cello with the Boston Philharmonic, a year as Assistant Principal Cello in with Charlotte Symphony and a 2001 debut recital at Weill Hall at Carnegie Hall.

Dr. Owen earned his Bachelor of Music degree from Eastman School of Music with a year abroad at the Paris Conservatory. Additionally, he received his master’s degree from the Juilliard School and his DMA from Boston University. His principal teachers include Harvey Shapiro, Andres Diaz, Philippe Muller, James Kreger, Alan Harris and Pamela Frame.
