Interlochen alumni nominated for 2018-19 theatre awards

This article was updated on June 10, 2019 to reflect the winners of the Drama Desk, Tony, and Outer Critics Circle awards.

Eight Interlochen alumni were recognized for their work during the 2018-19 theatre season. Those eight alumni received a total of 21 nominations in this year’s Tony Awards, Drama Desk Awards, Outer Critics Circle Awards, and Drama League Awards.

  • Chad Beguelin (IAC/NMC 85) led the pack with five nominations for his work on The Prom.
  • Tootsie star Santino Fontana (IAC 99) received four nominations.
  • To Kill A Mockingbird’s Celia Keenan-Bolger (AS 93-95) was also nominated for four awards.
  • Adam Guettel’s (IAC/NMC 80) original score for To Kill A Mockingbird also received a Tony Award nomination.
  • For his work as Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof in Yiddish, Steven Skybell (IAC/NMC 76-80) earned three nominations.
  • Benjamin Walker (IAA 99-00, IAC 98) received his first-ever Tony nomination for Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Play for his role as Chris Keller in Arthur Miller’s All My Sons.
  • Sydney James Harcourt (IAA 94-97, AS 94, 97) is among the Drama Desk nominees for Outstanding Featured Actor in a Musical for Girl from the North Country.
  • Director Tyne Rafaeli (IAC 98-99) earned a Drama Desk nomination for her work on Usual Girls.

Four additional Interlochen alumni were featured nominated productions, including: Ryan Spahn (IAA 95-98) in Summer and Smoke; Charlie Carver (IAA 04-07) in The Boys in the Band; and Elizabeth Marvel (IAA 83-87, IAC/NMC 82-83) and Michael Arden (IAA 99-01, IAC 99) in King Lear. The Outer Critics Circle Awards ceremony will be held on May 13. The following week, the Drama League Awards will be held on May 17, and the Drama Desk Awards will announce their winners on June 2. You can tune in to CBS on Sunday, June 9 to watch the Tony Awards live.
