“Artists From Interlochen” returns to Kirkbride Hall

Interlochen Arts Academy faculty members, alumni and friends return to Kirkbride Hall at The Village at Grand Traverse Commons for a series of intimate performances this fall.

Beginning Sept. 7 and concluding on Nov. 9, four Thursday evening performances will bring the best of Interlochen to the historic Kirkbride Hall at The Village at Grand Traverse Commons.

Nicole Abissi & Colin Williams
Thursday, Sept. 7, 2017 - 7:30 p.m.
Acclaimed trombonists Nicole Abessi and Colin Williams perform a selection of contemporary and classic songs. Ms. Abissi, who is an Interlochen alumna and a member of the nationally touring Stiletto Brass Quintet, joins NY Philharmonic trombonist Colin Williams for a variety of solo and duet arrangements during this premiere event.

Repertoire will include "Sonata for Trombone" by Eric Ewazen; "Concertino" by Lars-Erik Larsson; and "Emily Dickinson Songs for two Trombones" by Michael Hennigan. Also featured will be "Custom Made Shades" written by Faye-Ellen Silverman for Nicole Abissi; "Mahler Fantasy" written by Alexander Bonus for Colin Williams.

An evening of shorts including live action and and animated films by the faculty and students of Interlochen Arts Academy.

Faculty Chamber Music - Constellations
Thursday, Oct. 12, 2017 - 7:30 p.m.
A commanding assemblage of Interlochen faculty take the Kirkbride stage to perform "Constellations," a collection of emotive chamber music by Stravinsky, Takemitsu and more. Repertoire includes Toru Takemitsu's "Rain Spell," Stravinsky's "Soldier's Tale Suite," Heitor Villa-Lobos' "Quinteto Instrumental," and Ravel’s "Introduction and Allegro for Flute, Clarinet, String Quartet and Harp."

Singer-Songwriter Courtney Kaiser and special guests
Thursday, Nov. 9, 2017 - 7:30 p.m.
New music fills an historic venue in this final 2017 performance of the "Artists from Interlochen at Kirkbride Hall." With six original albums to her credit, Arts Academy alumna and current Academy Singer-Songwriter instructor Courtney Kaiser steps into the spotlight to perform several of her new and original works on the Kirkbride stage. Accompanying her are special guests and fellow Interlochen faculty members Matthew Cochran on guitar, Crispin Campbell on cello and Interlochen alumnus John Driscoll on drums.
