Patty Smith, a native of northern Michigan, holds both a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Northern Michigan University and a Master of Fine Arts from Arizona State University in the area of jewelry/metalsmithing. She is an Instructor of Visual Arts at Interlochen Center for the Arts.
Prior to teaching at Interlochen Smith taught at Northern Michigan University as Adjunct Assistant Professor from 2001 to 2008. Other areas of professional experience include grant writing, grant assessment, and curating art exhibitions. Smith is active at several non-profit art organizations regionally and nationally.
When not teaching or organizing exhibits, Smith spends her time producing jewelry and metalwork. Inspired by nature and industrial mechanisms, Smith’s metalwork and jewelry have been exhibited in museums, galleries, and art fairs regionally and nationally.
