Maureen Michaels

Executive Director, Customer Experience

Maureen Michaels joined the marketing team at Interlochen Center for the Arts in 2011. She became the Director of Marketing in 2016, leading the marketing strategies for Interlochen Arts Camp, Academy, the College of Creative Arts, Interlochen Public Radio, and Interlochen Presents. In 2018 she was named Interlochen’s first Executive Director of Customer Experience.

As the Director of Marketing, Maureen created and implemented marketing and communication strategies that drove profitability and growth and created brand advocates. Under her leadership, the marketing team was honored with numerous Telly Awards and a Communicator Award. Her leadership in the development of a new recruitment strategy for music and visual arts resulted in an 82% increase in visual arts inquiries and a 33% increase in music inquires.

Prior to joining Interlochen, Maureen moved rapidly up the ranks at Traverse City-based digital marketing firm, Oneupweb, serving as Public Relations Manager, Media Planner, Corporate Communications Manager and Director of Social Media from 2007-2012.

Maureen also excels at copywriting and content production, holding a BA in Journalism and an MA in Creative Writing from Kingston University in the UK. Drawing upon these strengths combined with her extensive marketing expertise, she has produced results-oriented marketing campaigns that have earned numerous industry awards, including ADDYs, Tellys, an International BMA Award of Excellence, and several other honors.

Maureen is an active and enthusiastic member of the northern Michigan community, aligning her activities and outreach with the principal values of Interlochen, including volunteering her time through several local agencies and acting as the Vice-President, Board of Directors for Addiction Treatment Services.
