Instructor of Voice and Opera Workshop Isaac Hurtado joined the Interlochen Arts Academy faculty in 2008. He previously taught voice at Florida State University, and has taught voice privately for over 10 years. His workshops on vocal technique and opera stagecraft have been seen in many organizations throughout the western United States. With a repertoire of over 40 operatic roles and numerous concert appearances, he continues to be in demand as a performer.
Recent appearances include critically-acclaimed portrayals of Edgardo in Donizetti's Lucia di Lamermoor, Werther in Massenet's Werther, the Duke in Verdi's Rigoletto, Tamino in Mozart's Die Zauberflöte, Roméo in Gounod's Roméo et Juliette, Alfredo in Verdi's La Traviata, and Pinkerton in Puccini's Madama Butterfly with Opera San Jose.
During the 2009-10 season, Dr. Hutado will perform Liszt's Faust Symhony with Traverse Symphony Orchestra, Beethoven's 9th with West Michigan Symphony Orchestra, and Messiah at the 31st annual Messiah Sing in Traverse City. He also debuts with Phoenix Opera as Remendado in Carmen.
Dr. Hurtado has also performed with the Midsummer Mozart Festival, Santa Rosa Symphony, Festival Opera, Central City Opera, Cincinnati Opera, Utah Festival Opera, Opera North, Opera Theatre of Lucca, Italy, Opera Circle of Cleveland, and Martinez Opera.
