Cynthia Van Maanen is Instructor of Music Composition and Music Theory at Interlochen Arts Academy. A winner of the Louisa Stude Sarofim Composition Prize, Dr. Van Maanen has had many of her works commissioned and performed by members of the Houston Symphony Orchestra, the Houston Ballet Orchestra, and the Houston Grand Opera Orchestra. She is currently working on an orchestral piece featuring Nathan Williams, Instructor of Clarinet at the University of Texas. This past fall, her solo work for flute, Blue Jays, was released on the Capstone label as performed by Nancy Stagnitta, Instructor of Flute at Interlochen Arts Academy.  Also a flautist, Van Maanen has performed with the Fort Bend Symphony Orchestra, Houston, Texas; Class Act Productions, Houston, Texas; and ARCO (American Radio Chamber Orchestra), Houston, Texas, in addition to other local community groups.
