Forty years after the first official student jazz concert at Interlochen Arts Academy, an all-star ensemble of Interlochen jazz alumni is gathering to celebrate the program that sparked their interests. Interlochen Center for the Arts will mark the milestone with two free concerts featuring some of today’s finest jazz musicians.

Interlochen Center for the Arts has received the National Medal of Arts, the nation’s highest honor for artistic excellence. The award was presented by President Bush to ten individuals and organizations in a White House ceremony on November 9, 2006. Jeffrey Kimpton, President of the nonprofit Interlochen Center for the Arts, traveled to Washington DC to receive the award.

On Saturday, October 7, 2006, Interlochen Center for the Arts opened the new Aaron and Helen L. DeRoy Center for Film Studies. The 26,000-square-foot building on the Interlochen campus will bring together key elements of filmmaking under one roof, including: a film studio, editing and production areas, a sound stage and a movie screening room.
