Bassoon

Requirements:

One major scale, one minor scale, one study or etude, and one solo work.

Composition

Requirements:

Minimum of three scores.

Digital Files or mailed hard copies are welcomed.

Instrument Audition:

All Composition students are required to participate in an ensemble (band, choir or orchestra). To appropriately assess the level of performance on your instrument, please upload the required audition materials for your primary instrument. See required instrument audition materials here. If Voice is your primary instrument, you are exempt from this requirement.

Strongly Encouraged:

Recordings of your work; MIDI realizations or live recordings are welcomed.

Singer-Songwriter

Requirements:

  1. A performance of three to five of a student's original songs. Students must accompany themselves solo (no backing tracks) with an instrument.
  2. A copy of all song lyrics
  3. For students performing in multiple languages: At least two songs must be written and performed in English. Please include translated song lyrics.

Requirements:

One major and one minor 3 octave scales:

Slur 4 quarter notes per bow;

Quarter note = 70. Proceed to slurring 8th and 16th notes

  • One Etude: Mazas, Kreutzer, Rode, Paganini or similar 
  • One movement from a solo Bach Sonata or Partita
  • One movement from a concerto or similar solo work
  • Possible sight reading (live auditions only)

Voice

Requirements:

Two pieces from the solo classical vocal literature. Repertoire must be performed from memory, in full and with live accompaniment.

As a complement to an off-site audition*, the voice faculty may request to schedule a phone, Skype or Google-Hangout meeting.

Suggested Composers for Vocal Repertoire:

  • Baroque composers such as Handel, Cesti, Scarlatti, Stradella, Bononcini, etc.
  • Classical composers such as Mozart and Haydn
  • Romantic and 20th Century composers such as Schubert, Schumann, Wolf, Hahn, Faure, Debussy, Vaughan Williams, Rorem, Barber, etc.
  • Opera arias are accepted if the voice is able to sing these pieces in a healthy manner

Additional Recording Guidelines:

  • Submissions must not have been edited or enhanced for sound
  • One microphone should be used to record BOTH the singer and keyboard
  • The camera should be placed in a fixed position in front of the singer, at a distance that shows both facial expression and physical posture/presentation
