Video: Spectrum (a collaboration with DanceWorks Chicago)

“Spectrum” is an original work of choreography by Christian Denice that explores autism. About 40 percent of those with autism have average to above average intellectual abilities, excelling in visual skills, music, math, and art, while about 25 percent of individuals with autism are nonverbal, but can learn to communicate using other means. Inspired by his mother’s work with autistic children Denice wanted to use dance and movement to express the realities of life with autism. Interlochen Arts Academy dancers collaborated on the project, learning valuable new skills in movement and expression and about autism.
