For two weeks during the month of December, the Academy dance department worked with contemporary choreographer and dancer, Jason Winters. During his residency Jason worked with Academy dance students teaching contemporary movement and technique.
Jason has wide-ranging experiences in the arts including classical piano, horn, percussion, acting, dance, graphic arts and design. His dance training includes Southern Ballet Theater, The Demetrius Klein Dance Ensemble, New World School of the Arts, The Miami City Ballet, and Edge Performing Arts Center. Jason's performance credits include The DK Modern Dance Company, Southern Ballet Theater, Radio City Music Hall, Mia Michaels and The Walt Disney World Company in Orlando. At Disney World he was a dancer/principal in seven full-length shows (including Beauty and the Beast, Lion King, Tarzan Rocks, Pleasure Island) as well as countless commercial and industrial special events. Jason was co-creator of the prestigious Firestone hip-hop/jazz company, the first interactive dance experience catering to up-and-coming dance artists like BT, Moby, Deborah Cox and Basement Jaxx. He has been an associate producer for several Super Bowl halftime shows, the Academy Awards and the Grammy Awards. Jason has been on the faculty of Broadway Dance Center, STEPS on Broadway, Dance Masters of America, American Dance Awards, DanceFuzion, Melissa Hoffman Dance Center, and The Joffrey Ballet School.
