Job Title: Studio Assistant

Reports to: Director of Visual Arts

Position Purpose: The Studio Assistant position is designed to generally assistant with various facets of the Visual Arts studio programs and is vital to keeping the three-dimensional studios work-flow progressing over the six-week core camp. Assistants also have the opportunity to produce and show personal work as well as working along side a dedicated and experienced faculty.

Essential Job Functions: Focusing primarily on the three-dimensional studios, duties include:  studio preparation and set-up, assisting with kiln operations, supervising the wood shop, inventory of supplies in the three-dimensional studios, studio clean up, assisting with classes in the three-dimensional studios, and assisting in other studios as needed. The studio assistant works an average of 8 hours per day but schedules are often adjusted to accommodate the busy programs and the various studio schedules.

Other Job Duties: The Studio Assistant may also assist with classes in the three-dimensional studios and will assist with the department's public and community programs as appropriate including open studio nights, extracurricular activities and Collage.

Equipment Used: Gas and electric kilns, clay mixers, pug mill, arc welders, plasma cutter, oxy-acetylene set-ups, various hand tools and a variety of woodshop tools and equipment.

Qualifications: A strong general background in three-dimensional disciplines, such as welding, ceramics and working with hand tools, is required and applicants will be required to verify their technical knowledge and abilities.  

Compensation: Salary $1,650 including room and board
