Job Title: Recreation Manager

Reports to: Coordinator of Leisure Arts

Position Purpose: The Recreation Manager is the liaison between the Recreation Department and the Camp Divisions. S/he also oversees the Challenge Course Program, and thus is responsible for scheduling, proper documentation, and facilitation.

Essential Job Functions: The Recreation Manager oversees the recreation department’s involvement in divisional recreation programming, including the challenge course, archery, crafts, off-campus trips, elective recreation classes, evening programming, and weekend events. S/he is responsible for managing shared and otherwise limited space, equipment, and resources. In overseeing the Challenge Course Program, the Recreation Manager is expected to work regularly as a facilitator.

Other Job Duties: Additional duties include, but are not limited to: meeting with divisional Recreation Directors; communicating with Division Directors regarding their recreation program; training and evaluating recreation staff; scheduling challenge course classes and cabin nights; managing challenge course paperwork and required regular documentation; planning and executing major all-campus social/recreation events for students; training archery instructors, and maintaining archery equipment and ranges; scheduling and monitoring Crafts classes within the Recreation department. Recreation staff members sometimes assist with divisional coverage responsibilities as defined by the Coordinator of Leisure Arts or the Deans of Students.

Equipment Used: Various outdoor recreation equipment, including tents and outdoor cooking equipment. Various athletic equipment such as soccer, softball, basketball, ultimate Frisbee, archery, etc. Challenge course equipment including seat harness, full-body harness, helmet, ropes, and standard belay devices. Recreation staff need also demonstrate professional phone etiquette and basic computer literacy, including familiarity with word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and email.

Qualifications: Recreation Manager must be at least 18 years of age and should have education/background in recreation leadership, outdoor education, camp programming, and/or recreation management. Working knowledge of challenge course equipment and industry standards is preferred; must pass Challenge Course Facilitator: Level I training provided on-site. Red Cross First Aid and CPR certifications required.

Compensation: $2100, includes room and board
