Job Title: Lifeguard/Small Craft Instructor
Reports to: Stone Waterfront/Boat Cave Director
Position Purpose: Lifeguard/Small Craft Instructor works as lifeguard at Stone Waterfront and assists with boating programs.
Essential Job Functions: Lifeguards/Small Craft Instructors work daily as lifeguards, including scanning, maintaining waterfront physical plant, and maintaining lifeguarding skills and physical fitness. Lifeguards also will assist with teaching and facilitating boating for campers and staff.
Other Job Duties: Additional duties include, but are not limited to: setting up and tearing down waterfront docks and lines, transporting and delivering equipment, keeping accurate equipment inventory, assisting with camp division programming, and attending lifeguard in-services. Waterfront staff members sometimes assist with divisional coverage responsibilities as defined by the Coordinator of Leisure Arts or the Deans of Students.
Equipment Used: Lifeguards/Small Craft Instructors should be familiar with standard lifeguard rescue equipment, including rescue tube, backboard, ring buoy, shepherd’s crook, etc., as well as in using watercraft such as canoes, rowboats, kayaks, and boats with outboard motors.
Qualifications: Lifeguards/Small Craft Instructors must be 18 years of age and possess valid American Red Cross certifications in Lifeguard Training & First Aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer: Lifeguard. Experience with small craft (sailing, canoeing, etc.) preferred.
Compensation: $1050 including room and board
Interlochen offers a lifeguard training class that you can register for once hired. It runs the week of June 14th and costs $95.
