Job Title: Crafts Instructor
Reports to: Lead Crafts Instructor
Position Purpose: The Crafts Instructors are responsible for developing, teaching, and facilitating recreational Arts & Crafts classes and programming for students.
Essential Job Functions: Crafts Instructors teach Arts & Crafts classes for Junior and Intermediate students as part of programming in the Recreation Department. They also provide Arts & Crafts opportunities for students in the evenings, with both formal (i.e. scheduled cabin activity) and informal (i.e. drop-in) programming for Junior, Intermediate, and High School students happening on a regular basis.
Other Job Duties: Additional duties include, but are not limited to: managing materials; setting up and cleaning up for classes daily; documenting lesson plans and attendance; managing divisional Crafts Assistants; communicating with Division Directors and divisional Recreation Directors regularly. Craft Instructors sometimes assist with divisional coverage responsibilities as defined by the Coordinator of Leisure Arts or the Deans of Students.
Equipment Used: hot plates; small kilns; bead looms; jewelry making tools and findings; woodworking equipment including jigsaw, carving tools, and wood burners; leather tooling equipment including stamps, mallets, and hardware punches; textile tools including knitting needles, crochet hooks, and sewing machine.
Qualifications: Crafts Instructors must be at least 18 years of age, and are expected to have experience and familiarity with various tactile arts, as well as experience working with children. Knowledge of the development of both fine- and gross-motor skills in children, as well as a basic knowledge of both 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional art, are preferred.
Compensation: $950, includes room and board
