Underwriting Programs on Interlochen Public Radio; It's the Smart Thing to Do!

Successful businesses throughout our region know that Interlochen Public Radio program underwriting is an affordable and effective way to reach an important group of people, the IPR audience. Local underwriting is charitable giving paired with the organized on-air acknowledgement of a sponsor. Our underwriters set themselves apart from competitors by their connection to a valued service, Interlochen Public Radio.

Radio industry surveys rank IPR Music Radio in the top five of the most-listened-to stations in Northern Michigan, and our new station IPR News Radio has been welcomed in the community with very impressive responses. Our listener demographics are highly desirable. Underwriting programs will give your marketing strategy a distinctive element; it's that special something. Try it! You will find that the money you put into Interlochen Public Radio is well invested.

As a program underwriter, informative and concise announcements recognize your business at times when the people you want to reach are listening. People will remember and appreciate you for your part in bringing exceptional programming to the airwaves.

Your association with this continuous outstanding service of classical music and news programming helps identify your company, as well as your products and services, with distinction. Supporting IPR is a chance for you to express to listeners your care for their station and their community...your community. I can assist you in developing your underwriting announcement and choosing the best times to air it.

I would also like to offer you the opportunity to be part of a select group of businesses in our area that participate in sponsorship of the Interlochen Arts Festival.

Feel free to contact me for more information and details about underwriting on IPR or sponsorship opportunities for the Interlochen Arts Festival. We want to talk with you!

How Does Underwriting Differ From Advertising?

Underwriting is charitable giving paired with the prepared on-air acknowledgement of a sponsor. IPR underwriters set themselves apart from competitors by their connection to a valued service, Interlochen Public Radio.

Underwriting Benefits

  • Creates awareness and a positive image of your products or services.
  • Provides access to highly desirable listener demographics, IPR reaches a concentrated target audience of well-educated, affluent and active listeners with a powerful, personal commitment to IPR.
  • Delivers your message cost-effectively.
  • Increases name recognition among professionals and business leaders likely to be interested in your products and services.
Offers a marketing strategy that combines the benefits of advertising with sound public relations.
  • Reinvests your money in the local community through educational, cultural and entertainment programming.
Provides recognition that you support public radio and the northern Michigan community.
  • Allows the opportunity to be associated with the intelligent, stimulating and trusted programming of IPR News and the quality classical programming of IPR Music.
  • Offers value-added marketing; since IPR limits the number of sponsorship messages on the air, your message gets noticed, more than traditional radio, television and print advertising.

Tax Benefits for Corporations and Businesses

In the State of Michigan, corporations may take 50% of their Public Radio contribution, not to exceed $5,000, as a tax credit. Contributions must not exceed 5% of the corporation's tax liability. Therefore, an underwriting investment of $10,000 a year with Interlochen Public Radio yields a $5,000 tax credit.

Federal law permits corporations to deduct up to 10% of their taxable income for charitable contributions.
