Tuning Tips ::

First of all, a selective receiver system is a must. If your radio receives other stations at several places on the dial, your radio and/or antenna combination is not working correctly.

It may be simply that your radio needs a proper antenna. In some instances, listeners have reported that by adding an inexpensive dipole antenna, they can receive IPR clearly and many other reception problems have disappeared. Please give us a call (276 4400 or 1-800-441-9422) if you need help finding where to purchase a dipole antenna. You should be able to find one at any electronics or audio supply store.

Here is a checklist of things you might try to improve IPR reception in your home, office or car:

  1. Aim your receiving antenna properly. Orient the dipole antenna so it is perpendicular to our transmitter. Outdoor antennas (which are usually the most effective) should be pointed toward the transmit site. IPR Music Radio broadcasts on 88.5 FM from Mackinaw, on 88.7 FM from Harrietta, and on 100.9 FM from East Jordan. IPR News Radio broadcasts on 91.5 FM from Traverse City.
  2. If you have a small table radio with no provision for an external antenna, orient the radio itself for best reception. Try moving the power cord, as this often serves as the radio's antenna. Some radios, particularly of this type, may not be able to discern between WIAA and other stations and should be replaced with radios that can. We've found that quality retailers will let you return a purchased radio within 30 days if a radio you buy just doesn't work for you. This includes Meijer, Witmark, Sears, Max's Service. Great choices for radios are: GE Superadio III ($50 table radio), high-end stereo receivers such as NAD, Yamaha, Denon, etc.
    Disable the AFC (automatic frequency control). Sometimes a radio will have two FM selector positions: "FM" and "AFC." Use the "FM" position. Sometimes AFC is fooled by a strong nearby station.
  3. On car radios, be sure the antenna base is free from road salt, which is a conductor, and can thereby reduce the effectiveness of the antenna.
  4. Contact us at (231) 276-4400 or 1-800-441-9422 if, after these sugestions, you are still having difficulty.

Thank you for your interest in IPR and especially your persistence in tuning our signal. Please know that we will do whatever we can to make sure that you can receive IPR with clarity.

Stay tuned!
