Points North
Michigan’s Attorney General says there will be no criminal probe of Meijer employees for campaign finance violations. But Grand Traverse Prosecutor, Al Schneider, says he’ll continue to push for an investigation. He says the law is on his side, he just needs to find someone to interpret it correctly. Schneider says it’s the first time in Michigan’s history a prosecutor has been told not to pursue crimes that may have been committed in his county. The law and the politics of the Meijer case, this week on Points North.

We’ve heard rumors for years that workers are leaving the state, and Wednesday at the Cadillac Michigan Works office, a small town in Nebraska was doing it’s best to lure workers there. Members of the Columbus, Nebraska Chamber of Commerce say living in their town is a lot like living in Cadillac – only the jobs are coming, not going. IPR’s Linda Stephan stopped by the event – and she nearly left with a job herself! Listen::
Homelessness among teens and young adults in the Grand Traverse Region is on the rise. In Traverse City – public school officials say there are about 40 or 50 students in each of the district’s three high schools who are known to be homeless. Meet some of the people who have tried to make a difference – and with mixed success. In the next half hour, you’ll hear the voices of a teacher, and outreach worker, and a stay-at-home mom. Supporters of universal health care in Michigan say their proposal will be on the November ballot. Meetings were held in Benzie, Leelanau and Grand Traverse Counties this week. The petitioners say if healthcare dollars were spent more wisely we’d already have enough to cover the uninsured. Peter Payette Reports. Listen::
