Welcome to the 84th Season of Interlochen Arts Camp

July 4, 2011

The 84th season of Interlochen Arts Camp has officially begun, welcoming around 2,500 students from 52 U.S. states and territories and 46 other countries to campus. This year's returning campers will notice a few changes and additions for the 2011 Camp season.

After more than six years of planning, preparation and building, the Upton-Morley Pavilion is ready to house performances, workshops, classes and rehearsals. This multipurpose venue boasts 350 open-air seats and additional lawn seating, as well as modern lighting, sound and backstage facilities. The Upton-Morley Pavilion will also be the location for the Interlochen Shakespeare Festival in summer 2012.  View Upton-Morley Pavilion webcam.

The Herbert H. and Barbara C Dow Center for Visual Arts received a generous contribution from alumna Kris Courtney: an eye-catching nine-foot aluminum statue called “Naj.” Created by artist Kevin Barrett, the piece was installed in front of the visual arts building in early June. The Shakespeare Festival, led by artistic director William Church, is an innovative interpretation of the Bard’s works. With the multitude of resources and dedication of the Interlochen faculty, staff and alumni, the Shakespearean imagination comes alive in the woods of northern Michigan. This year, the festival is proud to present “The Merchant of Venice” in the Harvey Theatre, June 30 – July 10.

The Summer Arts Festival is already in full swing. Already this season, Kresge Auditorium has welcomed Elvis Costello and the Imposters, The Temptations and a live recording of “A Prairie Home Companion.” For a full schedule of upcoming 2011 Summer Arts Festival events, visit https://tickets.interlochen.org/.
