In Memoriam, May 2010

May 18, 2010

Morris "Sonny" Bossingham (ICA Staff, 46-78) passed away on May 5, 2010. Born in 1918 in South Dakota, Sonny joined the Camp maintenance staff in 1946. He listed his prior employer as “Uncle Sam” - and his experience in the military proved very valuable, given Joseph Maddy’s reliance on Army surplus equipment. His career at Interlochen spanned more than 30 years, working as a tradesman, mechanic, garage foreman and eventually as the director of maintenance before retiring in 1978. Former Interlochen instructor and administrator Jack Hood, worked alongside Sonny and remembers him as someone who quietly did his best to make Interlochen a better place. “He was one of the unsung heroes at Interlochen, an eternal good guy who was always there when you needed him.” His wife, Hazel Bossingham (IAC Staff 62, ICA Staff 64-83) worked in the housekeeping department and passed away in 2002.
