  • In May 2010, some of the country’s most promising young filmmakers met their cinematic heroes at the Future of Cinema International Film Festival, which attracted entries from across the United States and abroad.
  • Crescendo recently talked with alumnus and Heritage Society member David Hattner, as he prepared for his return to the Interlochen campus as conductor of the Interlochen Philharmonic. Hattner is currently the conductor and music director of the Portland Youth Philharmonic.
  • Exploring the month of May in Interlochen history.
  • This May, Thomas Kitt (IAC 90) received a Pulitzer Prize for his work as composer and co-orchestrator for Broadway musical drama, "Next to Normal." This most recent recognition comes on the heels of two Tony Awards in 2009 for "Best Score" and "Best Orchestration."

News

  • Each year, the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts (NFAA) nominates up to 60 young artists for consideration by the White House Commission on Presidential Scholars. This spring, Andrew Bahle, a senior percussion major at Interlochen Arts Academy, was named as a finalist in this group of exceptional young artists.
  • Johnny McMillan, a senior dance major from Sault Sainte Marie, Canada won first place in two categories at the American Ballet Competition (ABC). 
  • The Herbert H. and Barbara C. Dow Center for Visual Arts was one of 12 buildings honored by the American Institute of Architects in Michigan at its 2010 awards program.
