Carol Jantsch Performs at Interlochen

January 14, 2010

On January 23, Arts Academy alumna Carol Jantsch will return to Interlochen to perform John Williams’ Tuba Concerto alongside the Arts Academy orchestra.

As a high school student at the Arts Academy, Carol earned a place in Interlochen lore with her notable performance on the public radio program “From the Top,” which was recorded from the Interlochen campus. She played a flawless rendition of Rimsky Korsakov’s “Flight of the Bumblebee.” On the tuba. Dressed in a bumblebee costume. It was a moment of greatness - but one that has now been eclipsed by her other accomplishments.

After graduating from Interlochen in 2002, Carol went on to attend the University of Michigan. In 2006, while still a senior in college, she earned a position as the principal tuba for the Philadelphia Orchestra, becoming the first female tuba player in a major symphony orchestra.

As she visits campus this month, Carol will not only rehearse with the orchestra but will teach several master classes and discuss her successful career with a major symphony.

Coming in February’s eCrescendo: see footage from Carol’s visit including rehearsals, master classes and interviews.

LIVE WEBCAST: the performance will be streamed live online at 7:30 p.m.
