Julie Bonk (AS 70-74, IAC 75, IAA 75-76, IAA St 76-77) performed at the Circle of Love at Unity Village in Kansas City, Mo. in November 2009. Julie co-wrote two songs and played the piano and organ tracks on the Maren Morris CD "All That It Takes."
Alan Gerber (IAC 70-72) and his wife Shelley perform and coordinate the Block and Gerber Music and Entertainment business in Piscataway, N.J.
Kathleen (Parr) McKenna (UW 70) has a watercolor studio, McKenna Design, LLC, in Waikoloa, Hawaii. She has taught classes privately and in colleges, presented workshops and lectured on her career in fine art and licensing. Kathleen's designs are available through a variety of companies that manufacture her work for home design. She will be exhibiting at The Atlanta Gift Show in January 2010 and at SURTEX in New York, N.Y. in May 2010.
Chip Davis (IAC St 70), founder of the multi-platinum group Mannheim Steamroller celebrated the 25th anniversary of his first release "Mannheim Steamroller Christmas." The anniversary CD, "Mannheim Steamroller Christmas, 25th Anniversary Collection," is a two-CD set featuring 25 Mannheim Steamroller favorites.
Laurel Firant (IAC 71, IAA 71-72, UW 74) had her composition "Dance" performed by the CUBE contemporary music ensemble of Chicago in their American Masterpieces series sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts in March 2009. Pianist Robert Conway performed her work "Orfeo" in a U.S. State Department-sponsored concert in Azerbaijan in May 2008. Laurel is currently a freelance arts writer for AnnArbor.com. She began working as a freelance writer for the Ann Arbor News in 1987, and was a copy editor for the newspaper from 1989-2009.
Attorney Sara Zivian Zwickl (IAC 72-73, IAA 73-75) has earned a certificate of completion in family law from the Institute of Continuing Legal Education in cooperation with the State Bar of Michigan. Sara completed the training in September of 2009, making her among the first attorneys in the state of Michigan to complete this extensive training program in current family law practice and procedures.
Kathleen Winkler (UW 72-73) and Kenneth Goldsmith (IAC 52, 54-55) are on the violin faculty at The Shepherd School of Music at Rice University in Houston.
Jonathan Bass (IAC 73-76) is a founding member of the Walden Chamber players. He was chair of the piano department at the Boston University School of Music from 2006 to 2008 and is now chair of the piano department at the Boston Conservatory, where he has been a member of the piano faculty since 1993.
Janet Bailey (IAC 74-77) portrayed Mrs. Muller in the Sudbury Theatre Center in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada. Janet has also performed in television series “Flashpoint,” “Dancing Trees” and “Poison Ivy: The Secret Society.”
Beth O. Rapier (IAC 74-78, UW 79) is the assistant principal cellist with the Minnesota Orchestra and will perform the Brahms Double Concerto with first associate concertmaster Sarah Kwak at concerts led by conductor Mark Wigglesworth in May 2010.
Rebecca (Haefner) Giselbrecht (IAA 74-76) is an assistant instructor at Fuller Theological Seminary and the University of Zürich. She is completing her Ph.D. with a dissertation on gender reconciliation and the mission of God. Rebecca is happily married, has five grown children and is a permanent resident of Switzerland.
Stephen Lange Ranzini (IAC 75-76, 78-79, IAC St 82-84), the President and CEO of University Bancorp, has joined the editorial board of AnnArbor.com.
Rafael Figueroa (IAC 76-77, UM 78) is the principal cellist with the Metropolitan Opera in New York City and is active as a soloist and chamber musician in New York, Europe, South and Central America and Japan.
Julie J. Nagle (IAC St 76-84) was awarded the Gertrude and Ernst Ticho Lectureship by the American Psychoanalytic Association for work integrating music and psychoanalysis. Julie will give the Ticho Lecture at the A.P.A. in Washington, D.C., in June 2010.
The Dalton family enjoyed an Interlochen Thanksgiving in New Jersey with Jon Dalton (IAC 69, IAA 70-73), Jessica Dalton (IAA 71-74), Jeremy Dalton (IAA 75-78), Jeff Dalton (IAA 76-79), Dakota Dalton (IAC 05-07, IAA 08-present), Jacob Dalton (IAC 08), Patricia Dalton (ICCA 09) and Laura Winston (IAC 05-06, IAA 07-09).
Trudy Fleming (IAA 76-78) founded Fleming Academy of Performing Arts in Chatham, Ill. Along with programs for adults and children, Trudy also teaches students with physical disabilities. She has been asked to develop and teach the Interlochen Arts Camp violin and piano institute for the visually impaired in June 2010.
Craig Symons (IAA 76-80) presented a lecture/recital on "The Life and Music of Sigfrid Karg-Elert" at Christ Church Cranbrook for the Region V American Guild of Organists convention held in Detroit in June 2009. Since 1995, he has been director of music and organist for First United Methodist Church in Royal Oak, Mich., and also teaches middle school boys vocal music at the Academy of the Sacred Heart in Bloomfield Hills, Mich.
Tomas R. Wise (IAA 76-80, IAC St 78-79) is conductor and head of music at Bonn Opera, Bonn, Germany. In September 2009 Thomas made a successful debut at the Norwegian National Opera conducting Dvorak´s “Rusalka” at the new opera house in Oslo, Norway. One of his performances there was taped full-length for Norwegian television. Thomas lives in Bonn with his German wife, Uta, and their three children, Felix, 9; Adrian, 9; and Miranda, 4.
Peter Ash (IAC 77, IAA 77-79) is the composer of “The Golden Ticket,” a new opera based on Roald Dahl's "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory." The Opera Theatre of St. Louis will present the world premiere of this opera from June 13-26, 2010 in St. Louis.
Adam Levin (IAC 77, UM 78) and Peter Stoller (UM 78) recently performed and co-produced on Adam's songs "While Sunlight Slipped Away" and "House on a Hill." The songs are featured on the 2009 concept album "Think of Us with Kindness," part of a compilation series of progressive music by artists from around the world. Earlier versions were released on Adam's 2007 CD "Blissful Behemoth." Their songwriting collaborations "Walls Start Falling," "Let It Go" and "Feeling What I Feel" were also featured on Adam's 2007 DVD "See It." Adam and Peter first met when they were roommates at Interlochen Arts Camp University Division,
Josef Miron (AS 77-78, IAA 78-79) performs with the Deutschen Symphonie Orchester Berlin, Germany.
Steven Finch (IAA 77-78) teaches statistical programming at Harvard University and continues to work on a sequel volume to his book, "Mathematical Constants," published by Cambridge University Press in 2003. He also hopes to release a second CD of original compositions. His first CD, "An Apple Gathering," was released in 1997.
Trary Maddalone (IAA 77-81) completed her twelfth year with the Creede Repertory Theatre, which recently won several Denver Post Ovation Awards. She lives in Colorado with her husband and their two children.
Lynne (Hsu) Xavier (IAC 78, 82-84, IAC St 85, 88) was a technical writer for more than 15 years and is now working as a medical coding auditor for a statewide hospital network. She is living in beautiful New Mexico with her husband and two children, ages ten and five. She recently started reconnecting with old Interlochen Arts Camp friends on Facebook.
Elizabeth (Vanderwerf) Jurenovich (IAA 78-81) is the founder/executive director of Abrazo Adoption Associates, a licensed child-placing agency administrator, licensed professional counselor and licensed marriage and family therapist. She has been featured in documentaries on BBC, MSNBC, Discovery Health Channel and Hallmark's adoption stories. Elizabeth is a featured presenter and speaker at adoption conferences across the U.S., Germany and Australia. She is an elder with the Presbyterian Church USA and has two sons, Christian, age 7; and Matthew, age 6.
Richard Ranti (IAA 78-80) is associate principal bassoon with the Boston Symphony Orchestra and principal bassoon of the Boston Pops Orchestra. He also performs with The Walden Chamber Players which includes Marianne Gedigian (AS 80-81) and Jonathan Bass (IAC 73-76).
Steven Kronaour (AS 79-80, IAC 81, IAA 79-83) is on the faculty of California State University, Long Beach as a voice professor and works with the Los Angeles Children's Choir as a conductor and voice coach specializing in the changing male voice. Recently he led a focus seminar interviewing counter tenor David Daniels on his voice change and experiences, including technique. Steven also researches aspects of vocal health and pedagogy with various teachers, speech therapists and pedagogy.
John Meredith (IAC 79, IAA 80-81) is a senior principal scientist with Merck Research Laboratories doing work on therapies for neurological diseases. He and his family (Kathleen, Rebekah and Aaron) currently live in northwest New Jersey and are all very active in the local and regional music scene. He has spent recent summers having a wonderful time visiting Interlochen where his daughter Rebekah (IAC 07-08) played trumpet in the World Youth Wind Symphony.
Amy Crum (IAA 79-81) is the owner and a designer at Blumen Floral & Event Design in Chicago, Ill.
