David Updegraff (IAC 62, 65, 67, UM 68) is head of the violin department at the Cleveland Institute of Music.
Tovah Feldshuh (IAC 63-65) will receive the following six awards, honors and tributes this year. Friend of the Arts Award from Town Hall, New York City, N.Y., Holocaust and Human Rights Education Center honors, Yad Vashem Remembrance Award from the American and International Societies for Yad Vashem, Inc., Friar's Club is honoring Ms. Feldshuh with a dinner and the Yeshiva University will bestow an honorary doctorate on Ms. Feldshuh. In January 2010 the America Israel Cultural Foundation will honor Ms. Feldshuh with their first Theatre Arts Award.
Ronald W. Lawrence (IAC 63, 65-70, IAA 70-72) conducted a master class in September 2009 on the Corson Auditorium stage for the Interlochen Arts Academy lower string students. He has performed at the Koln Musik Triennale, Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center and the Moers Festival and as a chamber musician and soloist on four continents. A New York City freelance violist, he can be heard with the Orchestra of St. Lukes, Sirius String Quartet, Cuartetango and performed with Cecilia Bartoli's American tour with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment.
Timothy Vick (IAC 63, IAA 63-65, ICCA 98, 00-08) enjoys rehearsing and performing chamber music in his hometown and with the Interlochen College of the Creative Arts chamber music program. He is a member of the faculty in the geology department at Carleton College in Northfield, Minn.
Christopher Brubeck (IAC 64, IAA 65-69) and his brothers Daniel Brubeck (IAA 68-69), Darius Brubeck and Matthew Brubeck performed for their father, David Brubeck, as he was honored at the Kennedy Center Awards in December 2009.
Richard Jacobi (IAC 64-69, IAA 69-70) is the chairman of the fine and performing arts department, teaches drawing, painting, printmaking, ceramics and sculpture at the Arts Academy in the Woods in Fraser, Mich. Richard performs on guitar with the Interlochen Arts Academy 1969-1972 Alumni All-Star Jazz Band. They performed in December 2009 at Sun Radius Music International in Traverse City, Mich. Other band members include Daniel McCarthy (IAC 69, IAA 70-74, IAC Staff 73, IAC Faculty 95-05), Donald Shelton (IAA 70-74), James Carter Cathcart (IAA 68-71), John R. Lindenau (IAA Fac 67-98, IAC Fac 68, 73-74, 80-81) and Allen Keith Rippe (IAA 69-71.)
David Glass (IAC 65-66, IAA 65-67, IAC Staff 69) teaches piano privately and composes music for piano solos. He composed a multi-tonal fugue for piano that he will perform at his 60th birthday party in Dallas. In December 2009, David performed the first movement of Beethoven's Eroica Symphony as a one-piano, four-hands, arrangement with another pianist at his church, The Gathering Place, in Dallas.
J. Patrick Rafferty (UM 65) is the concertmaster of the Brevard Music Center Orchestra, first violinist with the Louisville String Quartet and professor of violin at the University of Louisville.
Christina (Czukor) Conroy (IAC 66-67, 69, IAA 1967-70, IAC St 1970) is the founder of Music Gives Life, which provides seniors the opportunity to perform and gives them a sense of community. The all-volunteer troupe, with musicians who range in age from 60-95, rehearses at least once a week. Christina says, "performing helps not just the audience, but the participants’ health as well." Christina and her group "The Showstoppers" were featured as NYer of the Week by NewYork 1 news channel on the web.
Catharine Calder (AS 67, ICCA 08) is the head of school for the Meadow Montessori School in Monroe, Mich.
Jim Hecker (IAA 67-69) won the Sierra Club's 2009 William O. Douglas Award for his legal efforts to stop the destructive practice of mountaintop removal mining in Appalachia.
Peter Erskine (IAA 68-71) along with Alan Pasqua and Darek Oles, have released their latest recording, “The Interlochen Concert.” It was recorded in April 2009 in Corson Auditorium by Interlochen Public Radio Chief Engineer, Jack Conners (ICA 90-91, 99-present). The concert was mixed and mastered at Perfect World Studios in Traverse City, Mich. The recording is available by download only at iTunes.
Dr. Anne Moscona (IAC 68-69, 71-73) is a professor of pediatrics and of microbiology, vice chair of pediatrics for research and chief of pediatric infectious diseases at Weill Medical College of Cornell University. Her son Jacob Moscona-Skolnik was an IAC camper in 2007-09 and plans to return in 2010.
James Mosher (AS 68, IAC 69-70, IAA 70-71, UM 71, IAC St 72, IAA St 78-79) performed as soloist in the Richard Strauss “Concerto No. 2 for Horn and Orchestra” with the Simon Sinfonietta, on Cape Cod in Falmouth, Mass. in March 2009. In June 2009 he was principal soloist in the Telemann “Concerto for Three Horns” with the same orchestra. In December 2009 James performed with the Key West Symphony in Key West, Florida.
Susan Sabin (AS 68, IAC 69, IAA 69-72) is a member of the Swedish Radio Symphony in Stockholm, Sweden. She performed with the Key West Symphony in December 2009.
Pauline St. Denis (IAC 68-74, IAA 74-77, IAC St 74-76) is an award-winning, international photographer living in New York City. Her photography is showing in a traveling show for the “Holga Inspire Website and Camera,” which is currently at the Umbrella Arts Gallery in Manhattan. Pauline’s work has been featured in American Photographer and her clients include Sony, Nike, Barker DZP, Vibe, Spin and American Photographer. Pauline celebrated her first wedding anniversary to Mr. Christopher Lavarco. They live with their two Siamese cats Zazie Pierre and Geraldine Arleen.
James C. Cathcart (IAA 68-71) lives in Northern New Jersey where he is raising his son Carter and his daughter Mackenzie, writing and recording music, practicing piano, writing English adaptation scripts for the Pokemon cartoon, dubbing the English voices for the characters James, Meowth, Professor Oak, Gary Oak and many others for Pokemon. He is engaged to Martha Jacobi (IAC 64-70, IAA 71-73, IAC ST 72, 74-77) and will be married on September 4, 2010.
Dr. Daniel McCarthy's (IAC 69, IAA 70-74, IAC Staff 73, IAC Faculty 95-05) music was recently released on recordings by the Harrington String Quartet and The University of Arizona Wind Ensemble on Albany Records. A commissioned work from McCarthy, performed by The President's Own United State Marine Corps Tuba and Euphonium Ensemble, won The Harvey Phillips Excellence in Composition Award this year. He received one of four “Excellence in Composition” awards from The Ohio Arts Council for the year 2009.
Cynthia (Thompson) Stroop (IAC 69-70, IAA 74-75) is enjoying a change of pace having moved from the workplace to being a work-at-home wife. Cindy is married to Marlin Stroop for an exceptional 25 years. She has two terrific step-daughters, a super son-in-law and four wonderful grandchildren.
