Job Title: Recreation Director
Reports to: Camp Life Division Director and Camp Recreation Manager
Position Purpose: The Recreation Director plans and organizes all recreational activities, co-recreational activities, oversees the recreation hut, coordinates recreational classes, food and special activities within the camp division. The Recreation Director is the liaison between the division and the Camp Recreation Manager and reports to the Recreation Manager for all recreational/trip related issues.
Essential Job Functions: In addition to the responsibilities listed above, the Recreation Director fulfills cabin counselor duties and serves as a caregiver for students in their cabin and throughout the camp division. The cabin counselor is responsible for the safety of students in their care, guides students in their personal growth during their session, and serves as a role model to students and staff in attitude, behavior, and actions. Cabin counselors are also responsible for explaining and establishing expectations for camper behavior and adhering to Interlochen Arts Camp policies for campers and staff.
Other Job Duties: The Recreation Director shares divisional administrative duties as assigned by the Division Director including participation in Administrative and divisional staff meetings, and helping with administrative coverage in the division.
Equipment Used: Recreation equipment, computer, phone, fire extinguisher, PA system.
Qualifications:
- Experience leading groups and supervising staff is desired.
- Experience with planning and implementing recreation activities is desired.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple commitments, meet deadlines, and work as a team.
- A desire to work with youth, a willingness to live in a cabin and work in a rustic camp environment, an understanding of the developmental needs of youth.
- An ability to relate to youth and adults in a positive and respectful manner.
- An ability to communicate effectively and work both independently and as part of a larger team is essential.
- Staff interested in working in the high school divisions need to have completed one year in college or the equivalent.
Compensation: $200 added to base salary for cabin counselor ($1,100 includes room and board)
