Interlochen Alumni Receive Eight Grammy Nominations

INTERLOCHEN, Mich. – Seven individual Interlochen alumni received a total of eight separate nominations for the 51st Annual GRAMMY® Awards. The nominees include:

    * Cedric Dent (Camp 1978, Academy 1978-80) with Take 6 -- Best Gospel Performance
    * Cedric Dent (Camp 1978, Academy 1978-80) with Take 6 -- Best Instrumental Arrangement
    * Peter Erskine (Academy 1968-71) with others -- Best Jazz Instrumental Album
    * William Frisell (Camp 1967) -- Best Jazz Instrumental Album
    * Josh Groban (Camp 1997-98) – Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album
    * Robert Mintzer (Academy 1969-70) with the Yellowjackets -- Best Contemporary Jazz Album
    * Brandon Vamos and Pacifica Quartet (Camp, 1981, 83) Best Chamber Music Performance
    * Rufus Wainwright (Camp 1990) -- Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album

Additionally, Robert Mitzer (Academy 1969-70) performed with the Yellowjackets on a piece nominated as the Best Instrumental Composition.

Since 1958, Interlochen alumni have received 90 GRAMMY Awards and hundreds of nominations. Many more Grammys have been given to orchestras or ensembles in which alumni perform. Established in 1957, The Recording Academy is an organization of musicians, producers, engineers and recording professionals. The GRAMMY Awards, presented by the Recording Academy, are recognized around the world as an award for musical excellence. The 51st Annual GRAMMY Awards will be held on February 8, 2009.
